The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the teen suicide rate “has nearly tripled since 2007 and is now the leading cause of death among 10- to 17- year olds in Utah”.
Join us in building a community where our teens can thrive. The purpose of this town hall meeting is to create dialogue about how our schools, religious institutions, families and neighborhoods can work together to reverse this alarming trend. Topics covered will include: statistics and trends, mental health issues, and available resources for teens and families.
Simple tools and skills will also be shared to help build resilience and instill hope by Dr. Beth Haggett who will be leading the discussion. She has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) for two decades specializing in work with adolescents. She is currently an International trainer, speaker, coach and facilitator with a PhD in Mind-Body Medicine: Health Systems. Her interest is in helping individuals, families and communities build resilience. The panel will include Emily Hoerner, Chair of the Utah Chapter for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Andrea Hood, Suicide Prevention Coordinator for Utah’s Department of Health and Troy Williams, Director of Equality Utah. Additional panel members will share other critical perspectives.
